LIGHT GAUGE STEEL

Steel frame construction benefits communities and the environment.

  • Light gauge steel framing results in up to 10 times less waste than timber. Our process, including off-site construction, results in up to 70% waste reduction overall.

  • One cubic metre of steel can produce up to 21 times more houses than timber. Up to 85% of steel used can be recycled.

  • New Ways source their core material from Liberty Steel – the world's first carbon neutral steel company.

  • Hive Frame Construction specialise in the construction and erection of light gauge steel structures. Working with our manufacturing partners at New Ways, we can design, manufacture and install steel framing for almost any building, from houses and flats to hotels and leisure centres. We can also transform your traditional plans into steel frame systems, allowing you to reduce costs and programming times.

  • Innovative developers, local authorities and housing associations are fast embracing steel framing technology. They know it speeds up construction, cuts design and build costs and reduces impact on the environment – without compromising on quality.

  • Steel frame construction is fast. Building with steel frames is up to 10 times quicker than normal construction methods. A team of four of our people can erect the steel frame of one house in one day.

  • Steel can be up to 30% lighter than timber, which means it’s up to 60% easier to handle. This can reduce the need of heavy lifting machinery and save you time and money on your project.

  • For jobs big enough, our manufacturing partners New Ways can provide a ‘factory in a can’ service, where they set up an LGS machine and mini factory on site. The 'factory in a can' results in fewer polluting journeys transporting materials from factory to site, less disruption to communities and creates job opportunities for local people.

  • Erecting steel frame buildings is not weather dependent, meaning projects are not held up by rain, cold or bad conditions.

  • Special piling technology from PierTech, that integrates with the LGS system, means that the foundations can be laid 50% faster, regardless of the land type. Helical steel piling means no acidic, concrete foundations in the soil, thereby eliminating contamination. These piles are also removable, so in the future the building can be taken down, the piles unscrewed and the land is like it was never touched, making this a much greener system than concrete footings.

  • Steel frames construction is cost effective. It costs up to 30% less per square foot to design and construct than timber frame and traditional building methods.

  • A single 20 tonne lorry-load of steel can be used to construct up to 10 homes.

  • You enjoy early cost certainty – costs are predictable and manageable at every stage from preliminary design through to construction, vastly reducing the likelihood of late-stage budget escalation.

  • Steel frame construction is high performance. The finalised design is then fabricated and assembled to within 0.5mm accuracy.

  • Whether designed from scratch or converted from traditional plans, all of the steel frame blueprints are warrantied and thoroughly checked by a highly qualified engineer.
